living in the wet
Last Saturday I did a documentary photo exercise series at Tiong Bahru Market. Edwin Koo, a fantastic documentary photographer, teaching us in this workshop, chose 6 pictures out of my 300. I had to choose 6, too, meeting the challenges for portrait, mood and establishment shots in documentary photography. In the end, we had picked out quite similar shots, in particular one that stood out the most – for different reasons. Edwin highlighted the composition, the lines, the colours; me, all intuitive, I saw the beautiful woman in the wet market scene chatting with another woman while absentmindely holding a silver fish in her hands. Just to stay in touch. So, Edwin is right, all consciously taken photos are about engagement and feeling.
